The perfect French Toast For 2 recipe: just the right amount of custardy bread slices with tender centers and crisp edges. Ready in 15 minutes! Sweet, buttery, and cozy with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon and lots of maple syrup, this is the perfect small batch French Toast recipe!
1/3 cup(80 ml)whole milk(or cream for restaurant-worthy flavor or half and half)
2 tbsp(25 g)white granulated sugar(I also love brown sugar)
2 tbsp(15 g)all-purpose flour
1/2teaspooncinnamon
1/2 teaspoonvanilla extract
1pinchsalt
Unsalted butter(for frying and topping)
Instructions
Make the custard mixture. In a a shallow bowl or small baking dish, add the flour, sugar, and cinnamon, make a well and pour in the milk, eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until combined. Quicker? Add everything to a blender.
Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and grease with butter. Once the butter is sizzling, you can start frying. You can also use a griddle!
Fry. Dip the first slice of bread in the custard mixture. Don’t let it absorb too much mixture, a quick dip on both sides is enough (if you let it absorb too much mixture, it might get soggy). Place in the skillet, set the heat to low, and repeat with as many slices you can fit in your pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until crisp and lightly browned, flip and cook until crisp again (1-2 more minutes). Plate and repeat with the next batch. Do not pre-dip the bread or it’ll get soggy! Top with powdered sugar, maple syrup, and butter!
