    Funnel Cake Recipe

These funnel cakes are light and crispy, just like the ones you get at your local state fair but they’re so quick and easy to make at home!

I like topping mine with vanilla ice cream, crushed pistachios, cherries, and sprinkles but I’ve included a list of funnel cake topping ideas below for you guys!

Bring on the nostalgia! 🍿🎠🎢 🌙

    easy funnel cake recipe

    Funnel Cake Ingredients

    Milk, for the batter.

    Eggs, for structure.

Water, for a thinner batter. You’ll be using a funnel (or piping bag hehe) to add the batter to oil so you want to make sure the batter flows out of your funnel perfectly.

    Vanilla extract, for flavor.

    Flour, all-purpose.

Sugar, for sweetening, I like using white granulated sugar and then powdered sugar on top of the fried funnel cake for extra sweetness and visual fun!

Baking powder, so the batter will puff up when frying.

Salt, for flavor, just a pinch.

How to make funnel cakes at home

STEP ONE: Prepare the batter. In a medium bowl, add the milk, eggs, water, and vanilla extract, and whisk until fully combined and smooth. In a separate bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, and whisk until combined. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk until fully combined and smooth.

STEP TWO: Fry the funnel cakes. Pour about 1″ (2.5 cm) of oil to a medium pot over medium heat. Heat the oil until it reaches 365F – 375 F, I recommend using a kitchen thermometer for this step. Using a funnel, piping bag with the tip cut off, or a bowl with a spout, drizzle the batter into the hot oil in a circular motion, overlapping as desired.

Fry for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown, then gently flip and fry for another 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer the fried funnel cakes to a clean plate lined with paper towels.

STEP THREE: Serve. Dust with powdered sugar and serve topped with your favorite toppings or use my list of “15 Funnel Cake Flavor Ideas” in the notes down below as a guide! Funnel cakes are best eaten as they’re made, I don’t recommend storing them as they will turn soggy in a few hours (cut the recipe in half if you need less than 4).
