1/4 cup(50 g)white granulated sugar(or brown sugar)
1/4 cup(40 g)raisins(softened in a small saucepan of boiling water for 60 seconds)
1/2teaspoonground cinnamon
1tablespoonunsalted butter(for brushing)
2tablespoonwhite granulated sugar(or brown sugar, for topping)
Instructions
Prepare the puff pastry. Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. On a lightly floured work surface, roll the thawed puff pastry into a 10x12-inch (25x30 cm) rectangle and transfer the rectangle onto your prepared baking sheet.
Toast the breadcrumbs. In a small skillet over medium-low heat, add 2 tablespoon of butter and allow to melt until sizzling. Add in the breadcrumbs and toast for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Assemble the strudel. Add the toasted breadcrumbs to the puff pastry leaving about 1-inch (2 cm) from both sides, then top with the apples, sugar, raisins, and cinnamon. Lift the front side of the pastry and fold it over the filling, then lift the opposite side and fold it over. Finally, gently pinch the sides down to seal. Brush with 1 tablespoon of melted butter and sprinkles with white sugar. If you have any leftover melted butter, you can drizzle it over your strudel once it comes out of the oven!
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until flaky and golden brown on top. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, vanilla sauce, custard, or whipped cream.
Notes
Make-Ahead Instructions: Apple strudel made with puff pastry is better eaten as it's made because the puff pastry will soften up overtime so I don't recommend making this ahead of time.Storing Instructions: store covered or in an air-tight container at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the oven or microwave until hot.
