White Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting
Hey guys, today I’m sharing with you this delicious White Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting recipe!
It’s incredibly creamy and fluffy which makes it very easy to use. I love this on white velvet cakes or carrot cakes or cupcakes but it’ll work with pretty much any cake/cupcake flavor.
Depending on how soft you want it, you may decrease or increase the amount of powdered sugar. I usually keep it quite soft and creamy which is ideal for a dreamy look. Check out the white velvet cake right above as an example!
This recipe makes enough for frosting a 2-layer 8-inch cake or 24 cupcakes (if using a lot of frosting on top). You can cut it in half for 2-layer 6-inch cakes or 12 cupcakes.
Let’s make a batch!
Ingredients
- Cream cheese. Make sure you’re using room temperature full-fat cream cheese for this frosting!
- Butter. Make sure it’s room temperature, just like the cream cheese.
- White chocolate. I recommend using good quality chocolate bars, any brand like Nestle, Lindt or Ghirardelli will work. I don’t recommend chocolate chips as they’re usually coated in starchy substances to keep them from melting and clumping up which may result in the chocolate not blending into the buttercream.
- Vanilla extract. Use clear vanilla extract for this recipe! I like this one from McCormick (did you know they have a clear one?!) and it will keep your frosting nice and white.
- Powdered sugar. Depending on how soft you want the buttercream to be, you may reduce or increase the amount of powdered sugar. Keep in mind that increasing the amount of sugar will also increase the sweetness of your frosting so you might want to add a bit more salt too.
- Salt. To keep the frosting from being too sugary.
How to make white chocolate cream cheese frosting
Melt the chocolate. Chop the chocolate bars and transfer the chopped chocolate to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave until fully melted and smooth making sure to stir between each increment. You may also melt the chocolate in a small saucepan over very low heat, adding 1 tsp of vegetable or sunflower oil to it. Allow the melted chocolate to come down to room temperature before adding it to the frosting.
Beat the cream cheese, butter, and clear vanilla extract until combined and fluffy, then add in the melted and cooled white chocolate and beat until just combined. Add the powdered sugar as you beat until the frosting reaches the desired consistency.
