Maracuya Juice (Passion Fruit Juice)
Maracuya Juice is super popular in South America and for a good reason: it’s very refreshing in hot weather and goes well with so many dishes!
We love it with Pescado Frito (Fried Fish), Colombian Empanadas, and yuca-anything but you can also just sip it as a fun drink on a hot summer day!
This Maracuya Juice is:
- Perfectly sweet with some tang!
- Just like the one you get in Latin America!
- Refreshing and bright!
- Perfect for hot weather.
- Delicious with grilled meats, fish, and Latin American dishes!

Ingredients
Maracuya (Passion Fruit). I use the big yellow kind which is tart so it needs quite a bit of sugar. If you only have the pink ones, you might more because they’re smaller.
TIP: Pick the ones that feel a bit soft with a slightly wrinkly peel, the heavier it is, the more pulp it has so you’ll get more juice! If you feel the pulp moving when you shake it, it’s okay, it’s not overripe!
Sugar. The yellow Maracuyas I use are naturally very tart so you need quite a bit of sugar to sweeten your juice, you can add as much as you want but the recipe card down below gives you the amount we like! If using the pink ones, start off with a bit less and taste it before adding more because they’re sweeter!
Ice. Maracuya juice is served “helado” (iced) and it’s the best in hot weather, you can also serve it with crushed ice for a “Frozen De Maracuya”!
How to Make Maracuya Juice
STEP ONE: Open the Maracuyas by slicing them in half, use a scoop to scoop out the pulp with the seeds and add it to a blender.
STEP TWO: Make the juice. Blend for 30 seconds and then pass through a fine mesh strainer, add sugar and mix until dissolved, pour in the water and serve with ice (or crushed iced for a “Frozen De Maracuya”).
Variations
Creamy Passion Fruit Juice: Add 2-3 tablespoon of condensed milk or sweetened condensed milk (keep in mind that sweetened condensed milk will also make the juice sweeter!).
Passion Fruit Milkshake: Swap the water for milk.
Passion Fruit Lemonade: Add only 2 cups (500 ml) water and add 2 cups (500 ml) lemonade (make sure it’s already sweetened or it’ll make the juice too tart!).
Mint Passion Fruit Juice: Add about 7-8 mint leaves when blending.
Storing Instructions
You can store Maracuya Juice in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2-3 months and thaw in the refrigerator so it stays ice-cold!
