Puff-pastry Prosciutto Appetizers made with flaky puff pastry, melty cheese, and Italian prosciutto! Ready in just 4 steps. Dip them in ranch, queso, Aioli, or any garlic-based sauce to take them to the next level!
Prosciutto Appetizers
Because of all the love my Savory Pumpkin Twists get every Thanksgiving (thank you!!), I figured I would share with you a different flavor to make them a bit more evergreen!
These prosciutto appetizers feature flaky puff pastry, melty cheese, and – of course – good prosciutto. They come together in under an hour and are the perfect appetizer for the Holidays or any other party or gathering!
I would recommend a dip to go along with these, like this Aioli sauce, some good old queso for extra cheese or just ranch!
Ingredients
- Puff-pastry. If you have access to simple refrigerated puff pastry (which is thinner than frozen) I would recommend that but frozen and thawed will also work.
- Cheese. Young Cheddar, Gouda, Fontina, Gruyere, Provolone, and Pepper Jack are all great options. I don’t particularly recommend classic mozzarella cheese because you want a bit more flavor than that. I also don’t recommend Brie or Gorgonzola or similar cheeses because they would melt too quickly and leak out of the puff pastry.
- Prosciutto. It’s one of the key ingredients so you want to get good quality prosciutto. I recommend San Daniele or Parma and, if you can, I’d totally get it freshly sliced at your local deli counter!
- Your favorite dipping sauce for serving and dipping! These are great with ranch, queso if you want even more cheese, Aioli, or any garlic-based sauce!
How To Make Prosciutto Appetizers
STEP 1: Roll out the puff pastry, if using frozen (refrigerated puff pastry is much thinner and doesn’t need to be rolled out). To do that, unfold the thawed puff pastry layers onto a lightly floured surface and use a rolling pin dusted with flour to roll them out separately.
STEP 2: Add the shredded cheese and prosciutto to the first layer of puff pastry, then place the second layer on top.
STEP 3: Shape the appetizers. Use a pizza cutter or a knife to cut the rectangle into 1-inch strips (2.5 cm). Grab each strip and twist the ends, then roll them up into a donut-like shape tucking the end underneath. Place the prepared twists onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
STEP 4: Bake until lightly golden and flaky. Serve with ranch, queso if you want even more cheese, Aioli, or any garlic-based sauce of your choice!
Can I make these ahead of time?
No, I don’t recommend it. Puff-pastry goods are best eaten fresh!
How do you store prosciutto appetizers?
If you do have leftovers, you can store them covered or in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 1-2 days (unless your kitchen is very hot), or in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
You can reheat them in a skillet over medium heat with the lid on for 5-6 minutes or in the oven at 350F (180C) for 5-10 minutes.
HAPPY COOKING FROM THE EQUATOR!! I hope you’ll love these Prosciutto Appetizers with puff pastry much as I do!
