Turkey Cheeseburger Recipe
This Turkey Cheeseburger Recipe literally has it all and it’s addictive that when I first developed this recipe, it was the only thing I wanted to eat (seriously).
These cheesburgers can be made totally from scratch (bread, patty, errthang) or you can use store-bought bread and patties, it’s up to you, either way they’ll steal the show!
Why you’ll love this recipe:
- Juicy and saucy. This cheeseburger comes with a juicy turkey patty, lots of melty cheese, creamy burger sauce, and it’s smothered in hot honey. You fingers will be sticky and you won’t care lol.
- Lots of layers: you get the soft bun, the turkey patty, lots of cheese, onion, tomato, arugula, burger sauce and the hot honey on top!
- Make totally from scratch or… not! If you’re all about homemade you can make these with homemade buns and homemade turkey patties (recipe included down below), the two sauces are also homemade but you can take shortcuts and use store-bought buns, patties, and burger sauce!
- Easy to make. These burgers are ready in under 40 minutes… and will be devoured within 2!
- Perfect for BBQs, kids parties, game nights, and fun gatherings where you need something filling and deliciously satisfying!

Ingredients
Ground turkey, preferably 93/7. If you plan on using store-bought turkey patties, skip this and the egg (you can still use the spices on your patties unless they’re pre-seasoned).
Egg for structure, only for homemade patties.
Cajun seasoning, for flavor. If you don’t have this you can also do paprika, garlic powder, onion powder cayenne, and a pinch of oregano and black pepper for a quick make-shift cajun. Or just paprika. Still delicious.
Salt and pepper.
Cheddar cheese slices. You can also do American cheese if you’d like.
Butter, unsalted, for cooking the patties and for the hot honey base.
Hamburger buns. You can make your own at home for from-scratch burgers or use your favorite store-bought burger buns.
Onion, tomato, lettuce for assembling the burger.
Mayonnaise, hot sauce, lemon juice for the homemade burger sauce. You can leave out the hot sauce and use ketchup instead if you worry about the hot sauce and hot honey being too much (especially if serving these to kids).
Honey, cayenne, chili, garlic powder, paprika for the hot honey.
How to make the best Turkey Cheeseburger
Step-by-step instructions and measurements included in the recipe card below 🙂
STEP ONE: Prep all the toppings. Slice the tomato, onion, and wash and dry the salad.
STEP TWO: Make the burger sauce. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, hot sauce, lemon juice, and cajun seasoning. Mix until combined and set aside.
STEP THREE: Toast the buns. Slice the buns (preferably leaving the top part bigger than the bottom for a nicer look). In a medium skillet over medium heat, add the butter and allow to sizzle. Once the butter is sizzling, add the toasted buns soft side down and allow to toast until golden and crispy (1-2 minutes). Once toasted, remove from the pan and set aside.
STEP FOUR: Make the turkey patties. Skip this if using store-bought patties. In a medium bowl, add the ground turkey, egg, salt, pepper, and cajun and mix until combined. Divide into 4 equal parts and flatten into patties.
STEP FIVE: Cook the patties. In a medium skillet over medium heat, add the butter and allow to sizzle. Once the butter is sizzling, add the patties and cook until browned on both sides (3-5 minutes). Meanwhile, make the hot honey.
If using store-bought patties you can still season them with cajun seasoning when cooking them (unless they come pre-seasoned). Once they’re done cooking, top them with a slice of cheese each, turn off the heat and cover with a lid to allow the cheese to melt.
STEP SEVEN: Make the hot honey. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, mix in the honey, cayenne pepper, paprika, chili powder, and salt. Taste and adjust, if desired. Turn off the heat and cover to keep warm as the butter can solidify quickly if your kitchen is cold.
STEP SIX: Assemble the cheeseburgers. Spread the bottom layer of each bun with the prepared burger sauce, top with one of the turkey patties, a slice of tomato, onion, lettuce, and more burger sauce, then top with the other half of the bun. Finally, brush or drizzle with the honey sauce and serve immediately!
