French Hot Chocolate is thick, creamy, and decadent. It’s easy to make and turns out exactly like the one you’d drink in a fancy Parisian café.

French Hot Chocolate is my kind of hot chocolate because it truly feels like drinking just that: melted hot chocolate! And, in a way, that’s exactly what it is.

The French blend together chocolate, cream, and sugar creating a thick, creamy, decadent drink. American-style hot chocolate is much thinner because it’s the result of mixing cocoa powder with milk and sugar.

    This Hot Chocolate Is:

    • Authentically French, this is what you drink in France!
    • Thick, creamy, decadent.
    • Just like drinking melted chocolate!
    • Filling which is why it comes in smaller cups!
    • Perfect on cold winter days.
    • Quick and easy.
    • Ready in 7 minutes!

    Ingredients

Milk. Use whole milk for this recipe. You need all the creaminess and flavor of full-fat milk here.

Heavy cream. While you could do all milk, adding a bit of cream adds to the texture of the hot chocolate making it thicker and richer in flavor.

Sugar, for sweetening. Use white granulated sugar and taste and adjust as desired!

Chocolate. The key ingredient! Make sure you’re using high-quality 70% chocolate because in order to make this hot chocolate worth it you truly need to use a good chocolate!

How to make French Hot Chocolate

STEP ONE: Add the milk, cream, and sugar to a small saucepan over low heat. Heat until hot, stirring constantly but do not allow the mixture to boil.

STEP TWO: Add the chocolate to the mixture and mix until completely blended and smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer and keep simmering for about 1 minute, then turn off the heat and serve. For a thicker drink, simmer for 1 more minute. If it gets too thick, add a splash of room temperature milk and mix over low heat until combined.
